You know, it makes one feel more like they were         remembered if their name is mentioned".  After Peter's death in 1856, Elizabeth wrote: "Mother takes his death very hard and I am afraid She will grieve herself to death".  Instead, Rachel learned to read and write, took up smoking a clay pipe to pass the time, got herself a good horse and an easy saddle, and spent the rest of her life           riding from (her children's) home to home.

Benjamin Doughty was born about 1690 in Of Flushing, Long Island, NY. He died 11 Mar 1746 in Princeton, Middlesex Co, NJ.

Benjamin was employed carpenter. He signed a will 1746. He had a will probated 17 Apr 1747.

Benjamin Doty (husband of Abigail Whitehead) is attached to Benjamin and Hannah (Hinchman) Doty just because someone else had him attached to this family on the LDS website.  There is no proof as far as I can see.  BUT there is a lot of evidence linking him to the other Dotys of Flushing NY.  For one thing, Benjamin and Abigail became guardians of Samuel Stockson, son of Amy (Doty) Stockton.  Amy is the daughter of Jacob Doty who is a brother to the Benjamin Doty who married Hannah.  That would make Amy and Benjamin (husband of Abigail) first cousins.

Personally, and this is only a theory, I think that Benjamin (husband of Abigail) and Amy are brother and sister, and that Benjamin is an unaccounted for son of Jacob. That would explain why Benjamin was made guardian of Samuel because that would make Benjamin Samuel's uncle.

Another theory is that Benjamin is the son of Francis Doughty and Mary Palmer.  Evidence - Benjamin and Thomas are the only Doughtys who got married in Flushing around the same time.  Thomas is the son of Francis.

May have been born 14 May 1690-1691, but that birth date may be for another Benjamin since the birthdate was supposed to be for a Benjamin born in Piscataway, Middlesex Co., NJ, and we know this Benjamin was from Flushing.

WHEN HE GOT MARRIED IS BECAUSE HE IS DECENDED FROM FRANCIS DOTY AND NOT EDWARD!
BUT IF THAT WAS TRUE, WHY DID HE SPEND THE REST OF THE TIME IN NJ? TT

Son of Samuel, Probably one of the grandsons of Edward Doty (Mayflower). (Disproved)

From:  Mayflower Families in Progress:  Edward Doty of the Mayflower and his descendants for four generations, compiled by Peter B.Hill, Third Edition, General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 1996.
"Doty Gen. says that 'in all probability, under the name Benjamin Doughty, he m. Abigail Whitehead...[15].  However, the Benjamin Doughty who m. Abigail Whitehead in Jamaica, Long Island NY (license 23 Apr 1720) was identified as "of Flushing, carpenter [16].  His guardianship of Samuel Stockton, who descended from the Long Island Doughty and Whitehead families [17, 18, 19] is further evidence that Benjamin Doughty, husband of Abigail Whitehead, was descended from Rev. Francis Doughty of Long Island, and not the Edward Doty of the Mayflower.

MARRIAGE: Also listed as m. 1711 Jamaica, NY

Benjamin Doty served in Col. Farmar's regiment in 1715.

On March 20, 1739, he was appointed guardian of Samuel Stockton, an orphan of 15 years according to the Doty-Doten book.  The Stocktons lived in Oneaniekon, Burlington Co., NJ.

Benjamin died March 11, 1746 in Princeton, Middlesex Co., NJ.

Abigail Whitehead Doty married a second time in 1746 to Thomas Leonard (born 1691) and lived in Burlington, NJ.

Thomas and James Leonard are listed as friends and executor of Benjamin's will (Source:  Hunterdon Wills, Lib. 5, p. 501)

However, the Benjamin Doughty who Married Abigail Whitehead in Jamaica, Long Island NY(license 23 Apr. 1720) was identified as "of Flushing, carpenter." His guardianship of Samuel Stockton, who descended from the Long Island Doughty and Whitehead families is further evidence that Benjamin Doughty, husband of Abigail Whitehead, was descended from Rev. Francis Doughty of Long Island, and not from Edward of the Mayflower. Except the births of Sarah and Margaret Doty, no records of them has been found: and they are presumed to have died young.
