In 1338 Michael led an expedition to Flanders. Next year he was with King Edward an a similar expedition. He next sailed in 1340 from Ipswich and fought the battle at Sluys. In 1341 he again was in the service against the Scots. In 1342 he was with the King at Sandwich, then sailed to Brittany's a bannerette. Again in 1345 he sailed with the King and fought at Crecy and Valais. He was summoned to Parliament in 1348 and stayed until 1368. He was held by the King to be Lord Poynings. In 1351 he was one of the guardians of the coast of Sussex. and in 1355 he again joined the King. He was in the campaign at Poiters in 1356 and in France 1359 to April 1360. He was a commissioner in Sussex. One historian reports that Michael was slain by a son of King Edward, while Edward was out of the country, at the manor at Guasu in Kent along with Thomas Clark.
