1 Apr 1936: "...son of one of the oldest pioneers of Oregon, FRANCIS
M. STANTON, who crossed the plains with his family in 1847. They settled on a donation land claim, which is the present site of the Oregon State Fair
Grounds at Salem. With his parents (the deceased) moved to Yaquina Bay in
1866, and they made their home on the Stanton Farm 4 miles North of Toledo. ALFRED married KITTY INGRAM at Newport, OR in 1886, and they went to housekeeping at Toledo...he carried the US Mails in 1900, and later was industrial teacher at the government (Indian) school on the Siletz. He pre-empted a claim on Rock Creek, and it was there a daughter, FLORA, was born. She was the first white child on the Siletz. He is survived by his wife and two daughtrs, Mrs E. C. Atkins of Boise, ID; Mrs Ralph Bristow of Stayton, OR; and a brother, EDWIN M. STANTON of Yachats, OR."
